On Tuesday, September 6th, Waterside School celebrated its tenth year of operation with the opening of a new facility on 770 Pacific Street. Connecticut Governor Dannel P. Malloy, State Senator L. Scott Frantz, Congressman Jim Himes, and Stamford Mayor Michael Pavia attended the School’s Ribbon Cutting Ceremony. Carl Kuehner, president and CEO of Building and Land Technologies (BLT), and the principals of Lubert Adler Real Estate Funds donated nearly two acres of land in the heart of the ongoing redevelopment of Stamford’s South End allowing the School its opportunity. Construction of the new facility commenced in April of 2010. The 37,000 sq. ft two-story building enabled the School to expand its program, to expand in both scale and scope and to be housed in a facility commensurate with the School’s quality and ambitions. The new facility includes academic classrooms equipped with SMART technology; classroom spaces specifically equipped for science, art, computer and music; a library/media center, a dining hall, a gymnasium of the highest quality and a multi-purpose green roof providing a playing field and outdoor learning spaces.

Founded by Konrad “Chip” Kruger, the former Co-Head of Greenwich Capital, the Waterside School, opened its doors in September of 2001. Waterside’s student body is comprised of students of various ethnicities but shared is the sense of purpose, the promise within every child and the dreams and qualities of character that determine and define. Tuition is based solely on a family’s ability to pay and, as a result, covers only 7% of the School’s operating budget.

On Friday, September 9th, a reception was held for donors, board members and friends of the school. Tours were given and a wonderful heartfelt song of thanks was sung by the children.
