B*CURED, a Greenwich-based organization focused on ending brain cancer, held its fifth annual fundraiser, A Field Day at Night, at the new Chelsea Piers Connecticut in Stamford on Saturday, February 23, 2013. This is the most successful fundraiser to date for the five-year old 501(c)3 organization, raising over $120,000 that will go towards brain cancer research grants.
Distinguishing itself from past galas and other charity events, B*CURED's “party on the turf," offered private access to Chelsea Piers’ rock climbing wall, batting cages, and trampoline room as well as ping pong tournaments. In addition to the sporty games and live and silent auctions, an array of incredible comfort food was offered by Station Eats, Melt Mobile, The Sweet Life, Food Design Catering and Half Full Brewery.
B*CURED founders, Debbie Needle and Melissa Salamé commented, “The community's support has been incredible since we started 5 years ago and this year we had a record attendance with over 230 people. We are ecstatic to announce that the fundraiser will give us the opportunity to provide at least two to three new brain cancer research grants. We feel with certainty we are making a difference to finding a cure for this devastating disease.” Each day, 550 people in the US alone will be diagnosed with a brain tumor and survival rates are depressingly low. B*CURED strives to change this story by funding innovative scientific research at leading medical institutions like Memorial Sloan-Kettering, Yale, Columbia, Massachusetts General, and Cleveland Clinic. Eight research grants have been awarded to date.
Upcoming fundraising efforts include the New York City Half Marathon and the Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon. For more information, go to www.bcured.org or email info@bcured.org.
