Greenwich, CTJanuary 28, 2017
“The Avon Celebrates the Summer of Love 1967!” The Avon Theatre paid homage to the films, music and fashions from 1967 known as the “Summer of Love” at its annual Red Carpet Gala on Saturday, January 28 at the Delamar Greenwich Harbor. The sold out audience was treated to a surprise live musical performance by the guest of honor, Kevin Kimberlin and his band, who have opened for such greats as The Ramones. Co-founders of the Avon, Chuck and Deborah Royce of Riverside, presented the Avon Award to Joni Steele Kimberlin and Kevin Kimberlin of Greenwich, for their support of the arts and devotion to independent cinema. Joni is an Avon Advisory Board member whose independent films have been featured at the theatre. U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal and CT State Senator Scott Frantz presented proclamations honoring the Kimberlin’s contributions to the arts, conservation and scientific research. Co-chairs for the Red Carpet Festival were Cyndy Anderson of Riverside, Audrey McNiff and Berdie Brady of Greenwich and Carol Cohen of Stamford. Jenny Clark and Jean Doyen de Montaillou co-chaired the fabulous 1967 decor while Mary Ann Henry of Pound Ridge, NY chaired the Super Silent Auction.
All proceeds from the Red Carpet Gala benefit the general operations of the Avon and the annual college scholarship awards to area senior high students. The Avon is a member-supported non-profit independent cinema that features new independent films, documentaries, foreign films and cult classics. The Avon, a historic 1939 landmark, also provides a forum for in-person, community dialogue with directors, actors and other luminaries.”
