When you walk into new fitness studio, Belly and Body, and are welcomed by trainer/instructor Jonathan Edmond, you immediately know this guy has something special to offer.  Jonathan and business partner, James Perry, met ten years ago when Jonathan became James’ trainer. Both had the vision to open a studio and wanted to develop their passion for fitness and the sport of boxing into a concept.  That concept is Belly and Body. “Belly” because of the importance of the food we eat and the belly is our core and “Body” because we want to maintain a fit and healthy body and mind. Jonathan’s coaching incorporates his philosophy that everything starts from the ground up, your feet, stance and hips, which all help to improve balance. Jonathan has an extensive and impressive background in boxing and Kung Fu.  He spent ten years training at Mendez Boxing, a well-known gym in New York City. He teaches an astounding 33 classes a week, yet given his high energy and enthusiasm one would never know.

Belly and Body offers a full body and non-stop workout targeting core and producing lean muscle.   Their signature class, functional boxing, can be geared to any age and any fitness level. You have within reach a range of weights, kettlebells, sandbags, and vipers and move quickly and efficiently through three 15-minute rounds of aerobic exercises and punching combinations ending with a 3-minute cool-down.  The punching bags are a favorite of mine. They attach both to the floor and ceiling, and the filling is soft ensuring limited impact on the wrists. No need to bring your own gloves and wraps, the studio provides them. At the beginning of each class you are given a heart rate monitor, and after class, you receive an email with a class summary of calories burned, your maximum heart rate, minutes in max HR zone and class ranking.  It is a great way to track your progress and improve your cardio strength. The classes are small allowing Jonathan to give the attention needed to ensure proper form and safety. One can expect a different routine and workout daily.

Coming soon to the studio will be a new program called Boxing Inspired Personal Training.  BIPT will complement their signature class and allow clients to take boxing to the next level improving footwork, cardio, hip rotation, ground reaction force and glute activation.  Group classes are offered Monday through Saturday and easy to book online. This state of the art studio in Old Greenwich delivers a full body, fun and challenging workout. Hope to see you on a bag!
