Neighbor to Neighbor 40th Anniversary

Greenwich, CT – April 24, 2015April 24, 2015

Neighbor to Neighbor, Greenwich’s food pantry and clothing room, celebrated its 40th anniversary by honoring its Founder, Jane Fleming, and longtime volunteer Betty Sheridan, at the Milbrook Club on April 24th.  Ms. Fleming’s children were in attendance to accept an award on her behalf for her vision in identifying a pressing community need and organizing volunteers to address it.  Forty years later, Neighbor remains a volunteer-driven organization dedicated to improving lives by providing in-season clothing and access to nutritious food at no cost to Greenwich area residents.  First Selectman Peter Tesei opened the program with a Proclamation declaring April 24th to be “Neighbor to Neighbor Day.”  Other notable guests in attendance included Commissioner of the Greenwich Department of Social Services Dr. Alan Barry and Greenwich United Way Executive Director Stuart Adelberg.  Volunteer Betty Sheridan received a standing ovation for her 40 years of dedicated service.  With live and silent auctions, the sold-out event raised over $65,000 for the nonprofit organization’s food and clothing programs benefitting the community.
