Truglia Thumbelina Fund Annual Dinner
Stamford, CTOctober 5, 2017
On Thursday, Oct. 5 the Truglia Thumbelina Fund held a benefit fundraiser at the Water’s Edge at Giovanni’s in Darien to honor Dr. Michael Cotela, Executive Director of the Boys and Girls Club of Stamford.
In recognition of his longtime dedication to improving the lives of Stamford children, Cotela was awarded the Annual Christel Truglia Humanitarian Award.
Cotela has made a unique and indelible impression on the Stamford community by leading the Boys and Girls Club’s services that serve over 1,600 city youth each year. In 2017, Cotela spearheaded an initiative to revive the Yerwood Center by bringing it under the Boys and Girls Club umbrella. The move saved the important community center serving the West Side of Stamford.
Dignitaries in attendance included former State Representative Christel Truglia, Sen. Richard Blumenthal, Supreme Court Justice Andrew McDonald, Stamford Mayor David Martin and numerous local nonprofit leaders.
Founded by former Connecticut State Representative Christel Truglia in 1996, the Thumbelina Fund is a donor-advised fund of the Fairfield County Community Foundation that aims to meet the special needs of Stamford’s children. Whether it helped to purchase a prom dress for an underprivileged girl, build a playground at a local public housing complex or send promising students to a leadership conference, the Truglia Thumbelina Fund has added much-needed wonder, adventure, and joy to countless childhoods throughout Stamford.CLICK AN IMAGE TO ENLARGE
