The 19th Annual Greenwich Town Swim Championship Meet at the Greenwich High School Pool went off swimmingly as nearly 200 swimmers from the Boys and Girls Club Barracudas, YWCA Greenwich Dolphins and the Sharks Swim Team competed in 60 events for best times and top time honors.
Sponsored by the YWCA of Greenwich and the Dolphins Swim Team, the Holiday event has become a holiday tradition, as many of the competitors, get a chance to compete together from ages 6-17 as individuals and teams. “This is a great opportunity for the kids to compete in a wonderful facility with their parents, friends, families and teammates cheering them on,” commented Dolphins Head Coach Nick Cavataro who has served for the meet director for all 19 meets.
The big winner was Meghan Lynch, 16, of the Dolphins who went 5-for-5 in races, taking gold in the 15-and over 100-yard Freestyle, Backstroke, Butterfly events as well as in the Open 200-Butterfly and 500-Freestyle. Lynch’s time in the 500-Free of 5:00.22 lowered her own meet record by .5 and was the fourth consecutive time she won the event. Lynch also set a meet mark in the 100-Butterfly of 58.69, breaking the 10-year old mark held by Morgan Karetnick of 59.25.CLICK AN IMAGE TO ENLARGE
