Leta Austin Foster started her interior design business in Palm Beach in 1975. Her career quickly took off after Imogen Taylor of Colefax & Fowler spotted Foster’s design work, inviting her to London for an apprenticeship and hiring her to work for the label in Palm Beach. With access to a top-tier clientele, Foster became highly sought after and has since retained many of her client relationships for over 40 years.
Foster gained national attention starting in the 1980’s when House & Garden listed her as one of the “100 Greatest Interior Decorators.” House Beautiful has since hailed her as one of the most influential interior designers of the 20th century. Her firm’s extensive body of work was featured in the interior design book Traditional Interiors: Leta Austin Foster, Sallie Giordano & India Foster, published by Gibbs Smith. She has received many awards and accolades, including an honorary PhD from the New York School of Interior Design and an Addison Mizner Award for interior design from the Institute of Classical Architecture and Art. Her team of professionals includes Sallie Giordano and India Foster, who carry on the firm’s custom work with their own distinctive flair under the Leta Austin Foster & Associates umbrella at their design base in Palm Beach.
Foster is parlaying her love for interior design, extensive experience, and industry-wide relationships to launch her new concept, PREtty FABulous Rooms. With this endeavor, her mission to blend the convenience of the internet with quality design and furniture takes flight, and results in beautiful, timeless rooms that are easily accessible nation-wide.
The collection is comprised of American-made furniture and beautiful fabrics from leading companies such as Sister Parish Design and Quadrille, including Alan Campbell and China Seas. An added value of the PREtty FABulous Rooms concept is that while each room is completed by a nationally acclaimed interior designer with custom furniture, the cost is reflective of the team’s relationships and buying power. Rooms which would be almost triple in retail value are provided at a substantially lower total cost, which results in an added investment value for clients.
With the limited availability of each room, designs quickly cycle out, and clients have a fabulous space that is produced within reason, yet is unique and luxurious. All rooms come with a pre-arranged set of staples, and while nothing can be deleted, almost anything can be added. The designs are intended to be timeless yet fresh, so they can be mixed with cherished antiques, vintage finds, or modern pieces that express the client’s personal style.
The Leta Austin Foster team works with each client individually. The client will send a rough sketch of their room’s dimensions and the team provides a floor plan, as well as a paint plan. They can advise on blinds and other details, as well. The furniture is delivered via truck with white glove service. With the purchase of two rooms – a living/dining room plus a bedroom, one is able to furnish a small apartment!
