YWCA Greenwich will be holding its 3rd Annual Women Who Inspire Awards to recognize exceptional women in our community. YWCA Greenwich’s Women Who Inspire Awards was established to recognize and celebrate outstanding women who have excelled in philanthropic, professional and volunteer pursuits. Importantly, these honorees have enriched the lives of many in our community. This event combines the best of the YWCA Greenwich BRAVA and Spirit of Greenwich Awards and acknowledges the changes in society that have led to the fluidity of work/life pursuits for women of today.

Jane L. Snowdon was born in Ann Arbor, Michigan and grew up in State College, Pennsylvania where she was active in girl scouts, modern dance, choir, and majorettes. She was recognized as a 2020 State College Area High School District Education Foundation Maroon and Gray Society Honoree. After receiving her B.S. with honors from Pennsylvania State University, Jane earned an M.S. from the University of Michigan. She received her Ph.D. from Georgia Institute of Technology in Industrial and Systems Engineering.

Dr. Snowdon has devoted over 30 years to a career in scientific and applied informatics roles at the IBM T. J. Watson Research Center and IBM Watson Health. Dr. Snowdon is Associate Chief Health Officer in the Center for Artificial Intelligence, Research, and Evaluation. She is responsible for managing global efforts to define strategy, design, and implement research evaluation studies for IBM’s Life Sciences solutions, select exploratory research and COVID-19 projects. Jane is a member of the IBM Industry Academy and a Fellow of the American Medical Informatics Association. She received the 2019 American Public Health Association Achievement in Industry Award and has over 100 publications.

Jane is an elected member of the Connecticut Academy of Science and Engineering and serves on the Membership Committee. She made significant contributions to the COVID-19 Committee and co-authored a whitepaper “An Adaptive Risk-Based Strategy for Connecticut’s Ongoing COVID-19 Response” that was delivered to the Governor of Connecticut’s Office.

Jane is a compassionate and dedicated leader in the volunteer world. As a member of Christ Church Greenwich’s Grants and Outreach Committees, she leads monthly dinners at Inspirca’s Women’s Shelter in Stamford. While on the board for At Home in Greenwich, Jane created and implemented a successful organization-to-member emergency communication procure, and served on the Gala Committee. As a member of the Junior League of Greenwich, Jane contributed in various committee chair roles.

Jane is passionate about helping to empower and inspire girls and women to reach their full potential. She mentors university students and high school students with interests in STEM and entrepreneurship through IBM’s P-TECH program: Girls with Impact, and Girls Inc. Westchester, who recognized her as a role model for the next generation of women leaders. Jane also served as chair of the IBM Watson Women’s Network. In her spare time, Jane enjoys swimming, spinning, hiking, photography, cooking, and traveling.
