The American Prairie is a not for profit which is purchasing land, assembling habitat, and restoring native wildlife to create a vast prairie ecosystem of more than 3 million acres on Montana’s Northern Great Plains. On Tuesday, October 24th, art advisors Lily Downing and David Yudain opened their private art viewing gallery a restored barn on their back country North Stamford property to welcome Alison Fox, the CEO of American Prairie. On view at the Barn were works by Susan Williams as well as American and European Modern masterworks.

David welcomed Ms. Fox by relating his interest in open land as a fifth-generation rancher, whose mother’s family still raises cattle on the central coast of California. In a time of rapid development in that area, much of the land has been placed in permanent conservation.

Ms. Fox spoke of “re-wilding” the large parcels of prairie land the Prairie Foundation has acquired and maintains in Montana, where they are reintroducing the Buffalo and other endangered native species. She spoke also of the organization’s partnership with film maker Ken Burns on the American Buffalo series currently airing on PBS, as well as partnerships with local ranchers.
