14th Greenwich Alliance for Education’s Turkey Trot Returns November 30, 2024
5K Race/1 Mile Fun Run Benefits Greenwich Public School Students
On your mark, get set, go! Registration is now open for the Greenwich Alliance for Education’s 14th Turkey Trot 5K Race/1 Mile Fun Run on Saturday, November 30, 2024, in Greenwich, CT. The annual Greenwich Public School fundraiser is the largest community event of the Thanksgiving weekend with nearly 2,000 runners, walkers and spectators expected to participate.
Registrants can choose from either a 5K race or a non-competitive 1 mile run/walk. Both races begin and end at the Arch Street Teen Center at 100 Arch Street, and pace through the beautiful flat roads of Bruce Park. The 1 Mile Fun Run/Walk starts at 9:30AM, followed by the 5K Race at 10:00AM. Warm-up and stretching for all participants will be offered at 9:00AM.
“The Turkey Trot gets bigger and better every year with the help of community partners and generous corporate sponsors,” said Julie Faryniarz, Executive Director, Greenwich Alliance for Education. “This November, we expect a record number of participants to help us raise funds for our programs for Greenwich Public School students, teachers and alumni.”
Registration, which is available online at https://greenwichalliance.org/turkey-trot-2024/ costs $15 for children (13 and under) and $30 for adults. Adult pricing increases to $40 on October 29, and to $50 on race day (November 30).
Performance material t-shirts are guaranteed to runners who register by November 8 AND pick-up race materials – bibs, shirts and goody bags – by 8:30am on Race Day. Prior to Race Day, materials can be picked-up at Coffee for Good, 48 Maple Avenue, Monday, November 25 from 2:00PM to 5:00PM; or at Cadillac of Greenwich, 144 Railroad Avenue, on Friday, November 29 from 1:00 to 4:00PM. Race-day registration and pick-up will take place inside the Arch Street Teen Center from 8:15AM to 9:15AM.
The top three overall male and female 5K runners, as well as top three male and female finishers in nine age categories, from 10-and-under to 70-plus, will receive prizes. All 1-mile finishers will receive medals. Prizes also will be awarded to top individual and team fundraisers for the event. Additionally, the Alliance’s popular “Run For Your School Competition” will recognize one Greenwich school for having the highest percentage of registrants based on enrollment, with the winner receiving the coveted Turkey Trot trophy. The school competition closes on November 28.
New for 2024, the event will be produced in cooperation with the Greenwich Road Runners Club, with their members assisting with both course management and runner support. For the third consecutive year, the First Selectman’s Youth Commission, a 29-member community of teens representing different backgrounds, different schools, different geographic parts of Town and different interests, will help to expand the event’s impact.
All proceeds from the Turkey Trot, which is the Greenwich Alliance for Education’s largest fundraising event, will directly benefit programs which fund innovation, expand opportunities and inspire teachers to foster educational success for Greenwich Public School students. Exclusive Homes is the top 2024 sponsor, with Bimbo Bakeries USA, Cadillac of Greenwich and 400 Capital Management also lending high-level support this November. All other generous sponsors are listed on the Alliance website. Local businesses interested in publicizing their commitment to education by sponsoring should contact Julie Faryniarz at julie@greenwichalliance.org.
