Québécois & Irish Fiddle Meets Percussive Dance: The Granite Church Stage, Redding CT

The Granite Church is thrilled to announce an upcoming music and dance weekend workshop by the duo, Montreal-based fiddler Alexis Chartrand and highly acclaimed percussive dancer Nic Gareiss, whom The New York Times has called “the most exciting percussive dancer in the world.” The pair is known for blurring the lines between music and movement, utilizing Gareiss’ flatfooting and Chartrand’s violin playing to create a show that appeals to both visual and auditory senses. Secure your tickets for this one-of-a-kind weekend event.
PERFORMANCE (FRIDAY)
The performance is a unique exploration of French Canadian, Appalachian, and Irish traditions. The artists seamlessly blend Alexis Chartrand’s driving instrumental melodies with Nic Gareiss’ dynamic percussive dance, transforming the stage into a captivating acoustic landscape where every rhythmic heel strike and shuffle is as vital to the music as the fiddle itself.
When: Friday, April 24, at 8:00 PM / Doors 7:00 PM
Where: The Granite Church, 5 North Main Street Redding CT 06896
Tickets: $25 TICKETS
WORKSHOP (SATURDAY)
The following morning, music and dance continue with an Appalachian Flatfooting Workshop. Play folk music with your feet! Flatfooting is a solo form of improvised percussive dance originating in the Appalachian Mountains, with sonic and gestural connections to West African, Indigenous, and Western European dance. Using the toe, heel and ball of the foot to strike and slide across the floor, flatfooting articulates the rhythms of old-time fiddle and banjo tunes.
When: Saturday, April 25, at 11:00 AM
Where: The Granite Church, 5 North Main Street Redding CT 06896
Tickets: $30 TICKETS
