A chat with designer, Ariane deBraux Triay

I founded La French Goose in 2018, on a dare, actually. I had been designing and renovating my own homes for years. One night at dinner, over conversation about architecture, a friend’s husband emphatically suggested that I create an LLC the next day and launch my own business. The rest is history.

My design style is comfortable, elegant, lived-in interiors where kids and pets are always welcome. I’m not a fan of the term “transitional” but I do love mixing old and new, high and low, fancy and casual, so I might have a transitional style after all.

When designing your tablescape for the LOOK Holiday Design Luncheon, what was your inspiration?

I knew I wanted to make a holiday table that could also work any other day of the year. The wool plaid from Holland & Sherry set me on a Scandinavian winter theme where I imagined a forest above and the constant glow below from the windows of homes and churches in the sun-deprived winter season. The etched glassware felt like snowflakes on a window, while the brown table linens represented the forest ground.

Who would you invite as guests to this table?

A tightly packed table of family and friends is my preferred guest list. As my late mother showed us over and over again, we can always make room for one…or many more.
