When Gretchen Larkin became Head of School at Eagle Hill in July 2023, it wasn’t just a new role — it was a return to where her own journey began. A Greenwich native, she first attended Eagle Hill’s summer program in 1978. “It ended up being a transformative experience,” she recalls. “Even after all these years, I still have warm memories of the caring teachers and engaging activities that made learning feel exciting.”

With 30 years in education and a personal perspective as the parent of a child with dyslexia, Gretchen brings both expertise and empathy to her leadership. “I never imagined I would return to Eagle Hill, 45 years later, not just as an educator but as a parent who truly understands what this community means.”

Today, Eagle Hill draws students from 76 zip codes, offering individualized programs that meet each child where they are. “Some stay for three years, others for eight. What matters is that every student is seen, supported, and empowered,” she says.

As the school celebrates its 50th anniversary, Gretchen is focused on carrying forward the vision of its founders. “They were true pioneers, challenging the stigma around language-based learning differences. Their compassion laid the foundation for a school that has transformed countless lives.”

Her message to the community? Gratitude — and joy. “Eagle Hill is a place where every child’s potential is valued. Here, kids thrive not just in the classroom but in art, music, and athletics. And we love to have fun! We’re excited to welcome families to campus as we celebrate 50 incredible years.”
