Molly H. King has been the head of school at Greenwich Academy, a college-preparatory day school for girls in grades pre-K to 12, since 2004. In this role, she has led numerous transformative programmatic advancements and campus development projects.
Under her leadership, GA’s STEM program has become a national model, with an engineering and design curriculum and computer science program spanning all divisions. She oversaw the establishment of the Girls Advancing in STEM, or GAINS, Network and the development of one of the region’s first pre-K to 12 maker education programs. Molly also facilitated the launch of GA’s Center for Public Purpose, developed to introduce students to careers in public service, and GA’s founding participation in the School Participatory Action Research Collaborative, or SPARC, a project of the University of Pennsylvania. Her commitment to women’s leadership and career opportunity prompted her to launch the Career Resource Center, serving GA’s student and alumnae communities. Molly has spearheaded similar growth of GA’s campus. Construction projects completed under her watch span every division and every program, benefiting all members of the community.
Prior to joining Greenwich Academy, Molly was the director of admission for St. Mark’s School in Southborough, MA, and was also a member of the senior leadership team at Fay School working in various roles. Earlier in her professional career she taught and coached at Taft School and Greenwich Country Day School, where she also served as director of secondary school placement. Molly has held numerous board positions that have kept her at the forefront of educational issues and trends: current trustee and former board chair for SPARC; executive steering committee and instructor for the University of Pennsylvania’s Day School Teaching Residency; regent for the Cum Laude Society (she will begin her tenure as President General in late November); former board member of the Connecticut Association of Independent Schools; member and former president of the Fairchester Heads group. She has chaired reaccreditation committees for the Lincoln School, Milton Academy, Rivers School and Moses Brown School on behalf of the New England Association of Schools and Colleges and is actively engaged with her alma mater Bowdoin College.
Molly has been an enthusiastic supporter of many of the YWCA’s programs, from dialogs with community leaders, to presentations by Greenwich Together, to partnerships with the One Love Foundation, to programs honoring both Women who Inspire and youth who honor the YWCA’s mission to Stand Against Racism.
Molly received a BA in American history from Bowdoin College and an EdM in administration, planning, and social policy from the Harvard Graduate School of Education. Molly and her husband KC live in Greenwich, and have two grown children and four grandchildren, with whom she will play any sport, any time!
