YWCA Greenwich will be holding its 5th Annual Women Who Inspire Awards to recognize exceptional women in our community. YWCA Greenwich’s Women Who Inspire Awards was established to recognize and celebrate outstanding women who have excelled in philanthropic, professional, and volunteer pursuits. Importantly, these honorees have enriched the lives of many in our community. This event acknowledges the changes in society that have led to the fluidity of work/life pursuits for women of today.
Laura Erickson has been an active town and community volunteer since moving to Greenwich in 1996. She is currently serving in her second term on the Board of Estimate & Taxation (“BET”). Previously, she was elected to the Board of Education after petitioning on the ballot and served as Chair for just over a year. Additionally, she was a member of the RTM for 13 years. Laura is a former Vice President at a commercial bank with a focus on the technology sector. She graduated from Middlebury College with a degree in political science.
Laura and her husband Dave have three adult children (Daniel, Lindsay and Joshua) who each attended Greenwich Public Schools K-12 and like all families, had many extracurricular activities. Laura fulfilled many volunteer functions as a member of the PTAs at Riverside, Eastern and Greenwich High School during the seventeen consecutive years her children attended those schools. She was a PTA Co-President at GHS and Riverside School. During those 17 years, she was privileged to work with an amazing group of administrators, teachers, staff, coaches, students, community partners and parents.
Laura has also served on other not for profit Boards. She is currently serving her second term on the Norwalk Community College Foundation Board and is a former Board member of the Greenwich United Way and Greenwich Alliance for Education. She also served for nine years as a Trustee at her place of worship, the First Congregational Church of Greenwich.
In addition to spending time with family and friends, Laura patrons Greenwich Library frequently, golfs at the Griff and takes walks, usually with her dog, at the many wonderful town parks. She also enjoys stand up paddleboarding and downhill and cross-country skiing.
