Tracy Schietinger is the executive director of Greenwich Emergency Medical Services (GEMS). She has over 30 years of experience in emergency medical services. GEMS provides the Town of Greenwich with premier public health and safety services. Under Tracy’s leadership, GEMS has received the prestigious distinction of being CAAS (Commission on Accreditation of Ambulance Services) accredited and honored as the Connecticut EMS Agency of the Year. GEMS’s dedication to community outreach is a key part of its mission and a significant factor in Greenwich’s high national safety rankings. Greenwich’s cardiac arrest save rate is more than twice the national average of just 9%, demonstrating a significant increase in the number of lives saved. GEMS achieves this in part by providing free CPR training to public school students and town employees and provides over 160 AEDs (Automated External Defibrillators) throughout key areas of town.
Tracy’s youth mentorship helped shape the GEMS Explorer Post into a popular after school program for high school students that fosters the future leaders of pre-hospital medicine. She is an active member of Greenwich Together Coalition and the Greenwich Postvention Response Team, both vital resources focusing on safety and mental wellbeing. Her passion for the health and safety of the community and her ability to inspire others is evident in her many public speaking engagements. She gives local demonstrations on CPR, Narcan administration, and Stop the Bleed techniques. Tracy has partnered with charitable community organizations including Silver Shield and the YWCA Greenwich where she has supported fundraising initiatives and domestic abuse assistance.
Tracy was a first responder on September 11th and was a front-line leader during the challenging period of the COVID-19 pandemic. The most rewarding part of her career has been using her life-saving knowledge to help people in the Greenwich community. She is proud to serve as a role model as a successful female leader in a male dominated field.
Tracy received her Bachelor of Science in Business Management from Albertus Magnus College. She and her husband are the proud parents of two children. In her free time, Tracy plays golf and pickleball.
