In attendance at the Saturday September 7th opening were bold faced names including former Connecticut Governor Dannel Malloy, Barbara Winston, Greenwich PEN Women’s Deborah Weir, Savoy Royal Ball planner Carole Bellidora Westfall, Greenwich residents Helen Fitzgerald and Elaine & Chi-Chi Ubina, Anton Media publisher’s Angela Susan Anton, noted researcher Dr. Gualberto Ruaño, Christine Mortimer Biddle and Lugano Diamonds’ Salon Director Hossein Karimi.
Hayes enjoyed a robust six-decade career working in Paris and Coventry, Connecticut. His work is held by the Museum of Modern Art, the Guggenheim and in excess of a hundred significant collections across the country. Hayes’ work has been shown in some 500 exhibitions from 1955 to present day. In his lifetime, the artist worked with David Smith, Alexander Calder, Henry Moore, Alberto Giacometti, Sol LeWitt plus others.
The exhibition features late life small steel sculptures plus gouache paintings, hanging sculptures and reliefs. These were selected to illustrate a wide arc of the artist’s creative output.
Sorokin Gallery was founded by Carole Sorokin, a graduate of Christie’s prestigious Fine and Decorative Arts Program in London, and is the largest private fine art gallery in Greenwich. The gallery represents established and emerging, national and international artists who work in diverse media ranging from paintings to sculpture, prints, works on paper and mixed media.
Three of the artist’s grown children attended the opening. Sorokin Gallery is located at 96 Greenwich Avenue in Greenwich, Connecticut and open Wednesday through Sunday. There is generous off-street parking steps from the gallery door.
