The Barn @ Downing Yudain LLC is pleased to present Ron Strackbein: Construction(s), an exhibition of 16 works. Each work is meticulously constructed of sourced objects, some found from old construction sites and others elsewhere. Strackbein then organizes them on a picture plain creating a finished product that on the surface reminds one of the works of Richard Diebenkorn. Upon looking closer, there are references to Louise Nevelson and Jean Arp but the works themselves stand alone and uniquely his.

Describing his composite paintings, Ron states “My goal is to explore the boundaries of painting and sculpture by juxtaposing an assortment of three-dimensional objects sourced from our everyday lives on the painted surface of a two-dimensional canvas or board. Viewers may recognize the source materials as many of the objects, although glazed in bold colors, retain their original identity. This additive process of applying three dimensional objects to the surface of the painting extends the work to the viewer in a new plane. The objective of the juxtaposition of the painting and the applied elements is to create a cohesive work whose distinctive composition and vivid palette produce a beauty which transcends the individual features of the work.”
